Brief

Stash embarked on developing “Stash Meal Planner,” a comprehensive mobile application for iOS and Android. The core objective was to empower home cooks, particularly working moms, by providing a unique tool to streamline mealtime. The app aimed to digitalize recipe sharing, enable users to plan meals based on food already available in their pantry and refrigerator, manage food inventory, organize shopping lists, and store favorite meals, all within a single platform. The one-liner goal was to “Develop an entire app, Digitalize Recipe sharing.” This project sought to reduce the mental load and stress associated with traditional meal planning methods.

The Challenge

  • Fragmented Resources: Recipes and meal ideas are often disorganized, existing across various physical and digital formats. This lack of a centralized system makes finding and utilizing recipes inefficient, hindering spontaneous cooking and meal planning.
  • Inefficient Planning Methods: Traditional meal planning requires considerable effort, involving juggling dietary needs, preferences, and crucially, the ingredients already on hand. This complexity often leads to stress, last-minute grocery runs, and difficulty in consistently making healthy choices. A specific pain point was the mental burden of planning meals specifically based on existing pantry and refrigerator contents.
  • Shopping List Errors: Manually creating shopping lists from multiple recipes is prone to omissions, resulting in forgotten ingredients and frustrating extra trips to the store.
  • Untracked Inventory: Keeping a manual tally of pantry and refrigerator stock is challenging. This often results in preventable food waste from expired items and unnecessary purchases of items already owned, impacting both household budgets and environmental sustainability.
